Psycho Bunny’s Brings on First Official Professional Golf Ambassador, Abraham Ancer

The deal sees the Mexican PGA Tour player wearing golf and menswear apparel during a year-long sponsorship agreement.

While watching the recent Players Championship you may have noticed the iconic skull & bones bunny emblem on the course. This is because up-and-coming PGA tour golfer Abraham Ancer has joined the Psycho Bunny collective. Ancer, who was born in Reynosa, Mexico, secured his PGA tour card in 2018 and has quickly risen to become one of the tour’s players to watch. He is currently ranked 58th in the OWGR and is the #1 ranked Mexican golfer in the world, most recently winning the Emirates Australian Open in December 2018, beating a field of several known seasoned tour players. Prior to the PGA, in 2010 he won the Jack Nicklaus Award and led the nation in scoring average. He played college golf at Odessa Junior College and the University of Oklahoma, where he graduated in 2013 with a degree in General Studies.

Being that Ancer is the first PGA golfer we’ve endorsed, the fit had to be perfect. “We are thrilled to welcome Abraham to the Psycho Bunny family,” said Elara Verret, our VP of Marketing. “He embodies the Psycho Bunny personality of sophisticated mischief. As a brand that prides itself on uniqueness, it's a pleasure to embrace someone who shares a similar likeness.”

How did this partnership come about, one might ask? Our golf collection is designed for golfer who likes to make a statement on the course. Ancer took note and after seeing the high-quality products first-hand he became a loyal fan of the brand. Unlike typical partnerships where brands outreach to the players, he was actually the one to approach us with the idea of partnering.
“I approached Psycho Bunny a few years back, as the brand has always interested me. It’s different, unique and irreverent. As the only Psycho Bunny athlete on the PGA Tour, it gives me great joy to have a brand respect and further my individuality. I look forward to representing the Psycho Bunny brand and building on our partnership.” said Ancer.

The one-year partnership will see Ancer wearing Psycho Bunny on and off the course. He has already been spotted at the Valero Texas Open wearing the Sport Gosfield polo. Always looking to stand-out, one of Ancer’s favorite items is the Sport Lumley polo in hot pink. He will also play a role in the development process for new Golf product by relaying critical performance feedback of the garments to our production team. The signing of Ancer signals the continued evolution of our Golf collection beginning with the introduction of new fabrics with moister-wicking and antimicrobial properties in the Spring 2019 collection.

Although Ancer has a grueling schedule with over 16 tournaments scheduled from April to August, when Ancer is off-duty he spends as much time with friends and family as possible. In these moments, he looks for pieces that are versatile and comfortable, such as the Essential Classic Tees. Made in Peru from 100% Pima cotton, they’re a go-to staple for off-duty style.

In addition to this partnership, Ancer has also partnered with Miura, a high-end Japanese club producer renowned for their hand-crafted irons. Similarly, Miura welcome’s Ancer as their first ever PGA brand ambassador.

What drove Ancer to succeed against all odds? “My dad, he took me to the golf club in Reynosa and it’s there where I really fell in love with the game. The high stakes and determination it takes to become established. I think that’s what drew me to Psycho Bunny. They’re all about a risk & reward mentality. There's certainly no shortage of risk dedicating your life to professional sports."
